Error when activating LANDesk Management Suite 9.6

Hello,

 

I've gone through two new 2012 VMs (templates) so far and I've received this error on both when trying to activate.  Here's the procedure I followed on the second server:

 

-Windows 2012 VM template.
-Using local Administrator account activated Windows.
-Installed all available Microsoft updates, power-cycled, checked again, repeated until no new updates available.  Included recommended updates and updates for other Microsoft products.
-Within Active Directory, created a computer account for this server that get's no group policy (Blocked inheritance).  Group policies are currently not enforced on this domain.
-Joined server to the domain, power-cycled.
-Logged in with domain administrator account.
-Added LANDesk service account as a local administrator, disabled User Account Control, power-cycled.
-Logged in with LANDesk service account, began installation of LDMS 9.6, power-cycled when prompted.
-Logged in with LANDesk service account, tried to activate LANDesk but received error below (typed out for future users that search for terms):

 

"Collecting core server inventory information."
"Communicating with authentication server..."
30 seconds later the message at the bottom changes to:
"Core activation failed."
and I receive this error:

The activation file at this location appears to be invalid:

"C:\Program Files\LANDesk\Authorization Files\enu-activate.dateandtime.txt"

Make sure that an inventory scan has been run for this core server and then run this utility again.  If you get the same error contact customer support to resolve the issue.

I've been working with a consultant that has presumably done multiple installations and he doesn't recall ever having seen this error before.

I found this article, but it says it only applies to LANDesk 9.0 and 9.0 SP1.  I didn't want to try its solution until I got some confirmation that it should help with my problem.
