We currently have 9.0 SP3 installed on a Windows 2003 server with SQL 2005 standard SP3. I’m looking for the fastest way of getting to 9.5 on a brand new server running Windows 2008 R2. I read all the docs about a side-by-side and there does not seem to be an easy way, unless I’m missing something. I really do not care about the version of SQL I run on the new server and there is nothing wrong with my current database.
I was thinking of loading SQL 2005 SP3 on the new server and restoring my backed up LANDesk 9.0 SP3 database and from that point install SQL 2005 SP4. From that version I can upgrade to 2008 R2 and then load LANDesk 9.5 and point it to the upgraded SQL LANDesk 9.0 SP4 database which is now SQL 2008 R2.
My new server will have the same name as the old server and I plan on doing this over a weekend, this way I can shut down the old server and turn on the new server with the same name. Install 9.5 and point it to that database. Will this work? Any better method is much appreciated.
